An Herfe-ye Khas (“That Particular Profession”) is a psychological and social drama about one of the most pressing challenges young people face today. In it, I have tried to portray the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
In an age of speed and abstraction,
where there is no room to know yourself before you act,
Mahta is a young woman trapped in a perfectionist matrix. In a contest the matrix always wins, Mahta wisely chooses another path instead of fighting — a path that can only begin from within.
This book isn’t the whole story, but it is a good start toward acknowledging this challenge. I, Sarah Zarei, wrote this story for you — if you have come to this page looking to understand, and to find your way out of, a situation like this.
